Website Design

Reviewed on 07/05/2003. An excellent guide for persons wishing to market their website on the World Wide Web (WWW or Internet). With the book being published in 1999, some of the website designs which are critiqued or lauded, are a bit dated. However, a good design remains a good design and the principles still apply. The author guides the reader through the process of designing a website and implementing the final product.

The style of writing is very easy to follow (in fact it has been bedtime reading for me during the past few weeks). Clearly the author is aiming this book at IT as well as non-IT savvy readers. The book will be useful to non-IT persons in aspects related to understanding why the Internet is such a powerful tool for businesses and how it can be used to "interact" with customers. For IT persons, don't expect raw code to use in your own websites! Rather, Jim Sterne provides sound reasoning on what to do to get the site promoted and how to make it effective.

Reviewed on 15/05/2003.The author does not seem to be going anywhere with this book. It seems more like a collection of thoughts on the web, with some basic coding techniques thrown in for reference. This leads to the book being far from comprehensive as a reference source and not interesting enough as a guide to building a web site. This book would only be useful on a coffee table for a quick read between watching the soaps on television.
